Metaphors – Let’s Stop Following Them Off a Cliff

I am on Facebook often. Social media is part and parcel of being an author (The Travelers, Saguaro Books). You have to stay connected. Some parts of social media I enjoy more than others. Honestly, I find the Facebook part mostly taxing. So what does this have to do with metaphors? It's kind of a strange leap. But here it goes...

I grew up in a government family, so acronyms became words whose meanings I rarely understood. Some of them I even thought were just words being used wrong. My family would say something that sounded like "scissor" in a sentence where the word "scissor" had no place! I realize now it's some sort of acronym, I still don't know what it means though.
