Friday Five: My Favorite Websites About Books & Book-Related Things!

I love books, like a lot. Enough that I wrote one. (see The Travelers). Therefore, it's probably not surprising that I read and follow a lot of book-related sites and blogs. Blogs are a little tricky. I like so many great ones. That list would be very long and I may tackle compiling that some day soon. In the meantime, since it's Friday, I'll do a Friday 5 of my 5 Favorite Book Websites.

If You’re Going to San Francisco…10 Reasons You Must Go to Green Apple Books

On the day we arrived in San Francisco my friend said, what do you want to do? My response? Go to Green Apple Books! Here's why I love this place and why anyone visiting San Francisco needs to make sure this is part of their visit.

The Real Deal About Art: Surprising Reasons You Should Support the National Endowment for the Arts

I recently went to the San Francisco ballet and wrote a blog about it. What I didn't mention in that blog was that right after the ballet ended, we headed over to a protest across the street. And in the sea of black ink on poster board, I realized something important was missing...

T-shirt Tuesday: SciFi Books That Got the Future Right?

My husband and daughter have matching t-shirts about science. (So cute and nerdy.) Their t-shirts inspired today's t-shirt Tuesday blog topic: Did any science fiction books get it right or make predictions that came true?

Traveling with The Travelers: San Francisco Edition- Day 3 – Swing and Shakespeare

Day 3 of our visit to San Francisco, the last full day here. Like any good day, it all started with and ended with food, with a little dance and literature between.

Traveling with The Travelers: San Francisco Edition – Day 2 – Stories in Motion

If you're a reader or a writer or a watcher of theater or of television. Even if you like music, then you like stories. And, you know that stories can take many forms. As a writer (see The Travelers), obviously I like the written word. But I can fully appreciate that a story doesn't need to be made of up letters on paper, which is one of the reasons I like all types of art forms, including the ballet. And, yesterday, my best friend took my daughter and I to see one of the best in the country - the San Francisco ballet.

Traveling with The Travelers: San Francisco Edition Day 1 – A Bookish Trip

When I visited New York City in December, I took my book, The Travelers, along for some photo ops. No, the fact that people looked at me like a crazy person as I propped up a book in windows, subway stations and restaurants didn't discourage me from doing it again in a new location, this time San Francisco!

Alphabet Soup – Helpful Terminology for New Authors: Can You Guess What These Things Mean?

I grew up in a government family, so acronyms became words whose meanings I rarely understood. Some of them I even thought were just words being used wrong. My family would say something that sounded like "scissor" in a sentence where the word "scissor" had no place! I realize now it's some sort of acronym, I still don't know what it means though.

A Review of The Handmaid’s Tale: Fictional Masterpiece or Blueprint for Our Destruction?

Unlike the people helping George Orwell's 1984 sell out at amazon, I didn't decide to read The Handmaid's Tale to educate myself on what life might be like in the "hands" of a fascist regime. I picked it up because I'd always wanted to read it. I didn't even know much about the story at the time.
