I'm currently reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by the recently deceased writer, Robert M. Pirsig. It's a mind-blowing philosophical journey exploring classical vs romantic understanding. And, of course, such a book has made me start thinking about my own bookish questions...
This weekend in Washington, DC, there will be a march. Shocking I know. This is a good one though. It's a march for public education. In honor of the cause, here are 10 great books about inspirational teachers, the lifeblood of our public education system.

In high school, although I was loathe to admit it to friends, I loved English class. Outwardly I complained like everyone else about the 'boring' books the teachers put on the reading lists. Inwardly I loved them.
Book lovers all have a TBR, aka to be read, pile that is either a real stack of books in their house or a list in their kindle cue or on Goodreads. I have all three. I have more books then I will probably ever be able to read unless I decide to stop working, eating and sleeping for the rest of my life. That doesn't mean I won't try.
Amelia Earhart is one of those people in history you never forget. She was the first female aviator to try to circumnavigate the globe. She was a pioneer, role model, a legend. She's also at the center of a great mystery, one that is still making headlines today. It's the kind of story books are made of.
It's getting close to 4th of July and, in the US, that means it's time for the yearly summer celebration of Independence. Of course, it's not just a day. No, no. America sort of invented over-the-top, consumer-filled celebrations...It must be a whole weekend. A whole weekend in which you might find some time to read.
