My Favorite Things of 2016, Yes There Are Some! #goodthingsin2016

2016 wasn't completely awful, right? Here are some things I found in 2016 that not only didn't suck but were kind of awesome...

Books Over Looks Blog Series: Top 10 Books of 2016 – A Kid’s Perspective

On this blog I have a series called Books Over Looks. The goal is to focus on how books can help stimulate the minds of young people. In that spirit, today's blog is from the mind of my 11-year-old daughter. Here are her top 10 books of 2016 to, hopefully, help inspire other kids to read more.

Friday Funday! Find Your Kindred TV Witch Spirit

Have you ever wondered what TV witch character you are most like? Do you think you’re a flame-haired Willow? Maybe you’re prudent Piper? Well, now you can find out. I love witches, obviously. I wrote a book about them (see The Travelers). Therefore, I was very happy to chance upon this test to discover which TV witch I am most like. (Spoiler: I’m Hilda!) It’s super quick and fun if you'd like to try it too. And, if you enjoyed that, maybe you want to find out what character from The Travelers you are most like? If so, I have another test for you!

Stranger in a Strange Land: What You Can Learn About a City From Its Airport

I've lived in 4 places in my life - Northern Virginia, central Virginia, NYC and NJ suburbs. So, essentially, I'm a North East kind of girl. That said, I've seen a lot of places in and outside the US. I've visited Australia, Spain, France, Ireland, Australia, Canada and Mexico. I also get to travel extensively in the US for work. In the last year, for some reason, Dallas is a hot spot for travel. I've gone there 5+ times in the last 12-ish months...

Journey in Charity: Give a Book That Gives Back

If you love books, you love to get books. Since tomorrow is Cyber Monday, it’s a great time to find and buy books to give to others this season. In honor of that, I plan to donate part of the proceeds from the sales on amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com from my YA fantasy novel, The Travelers, to charity. But, what charity, you ask? Excellent question. Deciding on that was difficult...

Journey in Friday Fun: If My Characters Were Dogs (Prepare Yourself for Cuteness)

It's finally Friday. And I'm in much need of a distraction. So let's have some silly Friday Fun and pretend for 5 minutes that all the world's problems could be solved if we just cared about each other as much as we cared about our dogs. I mean. I get it. I love my dog, even when she wakes me up at 5 am to throw up on my carpet (which she does more frequently than I'd like). How could I not love that face though? Look at her, she's adorable and she loves books! She's perfect! Alright, so we've established dogs are adorable and great. Let's take this up a notch. Since I had so much fun writing a blog on “if my characters were Barbie dolls,” I thought I’d try a variation on this theme. In this blog, I’m going to do, if my characters from The Travelers were dogs.

Journey in Bookstores: Celebrating Independent Spirit

This weekend I will be in Staunton, VA signing my book, The Travelers, at the wonderful Sacred Circle Bookstore and Gift shop. (If you live or happen to be nearby come and see me!) Sadly, finding a bookstore like this one is rare. While I love my local Barnes and Noble (I will take any place where I can get physical books), I miss the small book retailers, the unicorns of the book world. There are so few now. But, they can still be found, check out a few here.

Journey in TV: The Simpsons Halloween Treehouse of Horror

One of my favorite Halloween traditions is watching The Simpsons 'Treehouse of Horror'. This year 'Treehouse of Horror XXVII' already aired on October 16. But it's the year 2016 and if you haven't seen it yet, it's pretty easy to figure out a way. Or, if you prefer, check out one of the classic episodes from earlier seasons. Not sure which one to watch since there are 27 of them? Stay tuned and I'll help you out.
