April is such an awesome month, I can almost barely stand it. First, it's National Poetry Month. April also means spring and flowers and warm weather. And, today, April 2, is International Children's Book Day. Just another reason to love April.
On our way to our weekly music lesson on Sunday, my daughter sat in the back seat of the car lamenting that we never do anything interesting on Sundays and that she needed more steps. Apparently, unbeknownst to me, Sundays in our family are "boring." So, you can guess what I suggested - let's check out a new bookstore!
Indie. It is a shortened version of the word independent, in that it's free from the giant corporate conglomerates that dominate the world. It's a medium that's free to experiment and unconstrained by interference from those who care only about money, not art. Indie music. Indie film. You can find an indie version almost anything artistic, including books.
Tips on How to Spend 4+ Hours in an Airport and NOT Be Bored (Spoiler: it includes books and spying)
As I've mentioned before I spend an inordinate amount of my life in airports. Sounds totally boring right? Not for me and it doesn’t have to be for you either. Here are some fun ways to spend your time if you’re stuck in an airport.
As a child, I apparently had a bit of a doll problem. If a doll existed, I wanted it. As an adult, I got over my doll collecting obsession because you can't be an adult who buys and collects dolls, right? Therefore, instead, I transferred that obsessive nature to collecting other things, books obviously. (And, shhh, shoes too.)
I love books, like a lot. Enough that I wrote one. (see The Travelers). Therefore, it's probably not surprising that I read and follow a lot of book-related sites and blogs. Blogs are a little tricky. I like so many great ones. That list would be very long and I may tackle compiling that some day soon. When I visited New York City in December, I took my book, The Travelers, along for some photo ops. No, the fact that people looked at me like a crazy person as I propped up a book in windows, subway stations and restaurants didn't discourage me from doing it again in a new location, this time San Francisco!
Buying gifts can be stressful. If you're like me you fret about giving people the perfect gift. I like my gifts to be meaningful. Honestly, if someone makes a wishlist that's the best. But, not everyone does and if it's a wishlist available to multiple people, then you risk giving duplicate gifts. So how do you pick the best gift for someone?
