It's Friday Five time again. Time to review my five favorite bookish articles or stories floating around in the last week or so. This week includes a sampling of stories both serious and fun, ranging from racism in books to book festival mania.

You've experienced it before. The book. The hype. Maybe it even becomes a movie. And then, for some reason, the meteoric rise of a novel has a Milli Vanilli level fall. (You 90s people know what I mean.)

Book lovers all have a TBR, aka to be read, pile that is either a real stack of books in their house or a list in their kindle cue or on Goodreads. I have all three. I have more books then I will probably ever be able to read unless I decide to stop working, eating and sleeping for the rest of my life. That doesn't mean I won't try.
It's getting close to 4th of July and, in the US, that means it's time for the yearly summer celebration of Independence. Of course, it's not just a day. No, no. America sort of invented over-the-top, consumer-filled celebrations...It must be a whole weekend. A whole weekend in which you might find some time to read.

Every week I find tons of stories about books and writing that are so compelling, it's hard to choose just five. And I know not everyone has time to read through all the news, let alone news about books...
Whether you're a writer or not, you've heard people say "write what you know." The idea is that you should stick to topics with which you have experience. I think that this advice is garbage.
Book-related stories and articles always catch my attention and I read dozens or more during the week. In case you don't have time to read all the book stories every week, here are my favorite top 5 condensed down for you!
