Top 10 Tuesday: My Top 10 Quotes from Harry Potter Book 1 – The Sorcerer’s Stone

I am new to the Harry Potter-verse and just finished book 1 (Sorcerer's Stone). I successfully survived reading it without breaking any of my daughter's rules for reading her book. Therefore, to celebrate finishing the first book and kicking off my introduction into the world of Harry Potter, here are my Top 10 favorite quotes from the first book!

Top 10 Tuesday: Best Moments of the Holiday Season

So, it's now 10 days into 2017. (10 already? Time goes so fast!) I'm back to my relatively regimented schedule of working, writing, laundry, cleaning, etc, basically, all the stuff of a peaceful daily life. Once we (the proverbial "we") get back in our routines after a vacation or big event, I think we can start to forget all the great memories we've made. They get buried under all the new things we're doing, like an old photograph that gets lost in the bottom of a box for years or maybe forever. So, before I forget them all, I want to document my top 10 best moments of the 2016 vacation holiday season (in no particular order)!

Crazy in NYC: Traveling with The Travelers Day 1!

The Travelers took a little tour of New York City along with the dance company my daughter is a part of (C4 Dance Company) yesterday. (I luckily got to come with them!) The Travelers also had a little pal. (Jane Bennet from Pride and Prejudice Zombies.) She shares the same last name as the main characters in my book (Dagny Bennet and her family). She's also a sassy girl from a fantasy book with connections to the past, like my book. Plus, I have a recent obsession with POP figurines. So she seemed like a great side kick for our little trip through the city. It all began Sunday night...

Get into the Holiday Spirit: 10 Ways to “Read” A Christmas Carol

First, I love holiday stories and movies - White Christmas,Elf, to name a few. One I've always had an affinity for is A Christmas Carol. It's a story that lends itself to telling and retelling in so many ways. I mean how many times have you seen a TV show do A Christmas Carol episode? I'd guess more than you can count. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, the message of reflection and compassion is universal. Therefore, I think the versatile styling of the Christmas classic deserves it's own blog post.

A Holiday Inspired T-shirt Tuesday: Top 10 Holiday Movies

It's t-shirt Tuesday. The day where I choose one of my husband's many amusing t-shirts as inspiration for my blog. Given my continued struggle with the book-mas tree this week (see blog from this weekend) and the fact that it's still not complete, my choice of t-shirts this week will seem pretty fitting. And since it's Tuesday, let's combine TWO things and make it a Twos-day: T-shirt Tuesday and Tuesday Top Ten.

Halloween Journey: Interview with a Vampire Story Lover

Halloween is so soon. And what would my 13 days of Halloween blog be without at least one ode to undead bloodsuckers? From literature to TV to film, the popularity of these pervasive mythical monsters is unstoppable. I am not only a vampire fangirl. I also do my part to continue this cultural fondness for the fang. I’ve even sired a new vampire story fan—my 11-year-old daughter, who recently sank her teeth into ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reruns. (While she thinks Buffy kicks butt she also keeps asking my why that Angel guy never wears his shirt.) Where did my fang-tastic obsession begin?

Journey in Haunting: Halloween Houses That Strike Real Fear

It’s the weekend and only 8 days left until Halloween. Can’t think of anything to do this weekend? Why not go to a haunted house? Sure, it’s strange to go somewhere with the goal of intentionally being scared out of your mind. And, yet, we do it and we love it. In fact, our cultural obsession goes well beyond the ghostly and ghoulish temporary creations erected for Halloween.

Journey in Scary: Terrifying Books that Spawned Terrifying Movies

Now there are only 10 days until Halloween! So, how about 10 of the most terrifying books that became 10 of the most terrifying movies! Let's start in the murky waters of the ocean, where we see a large pair of Jaws...

Journey in Food: Pizza – It’s More Than Just a Pie…(in honor of National Pizza Month)

Break out the napkins, parmesan and red pepper flakes because it is National Pizza Month. Why on earth is a blog focused on books and writing talking about pizza? Well, firstly, pizza is a great. I feel like that is reason enough. But, in case you need something more book-y, it’s also a main food group for one of the characters in my book, The Travelers. So, I thought an ode to the pie would be appropriate. As a former NYC resident... You need to understand that pizza is very important to me.
